Caterpillar and Butterflies Notecard

This beautiful illustration of two butterflies and a caterpillar is by German entomologist Maria Sibylla Merian (1647–1717). Merian was a pioneer of insect study, and her artworks are believed to be the first which depict insects together with the plants that they feed on. Adapted from the 1730 edition of 'Metamorphosis insectorum surinamensium' (first published 1705). From the Royal Entomological Society library. This is one of six co-branded cards with the Royal Entomological Society. 10% of the net sale price of each card sold will go to support @royentsoc's work.
